Forever And A Day

The Lazy Man

Copyright 2006.

This was written for a play I created called 'Lenny's Lazy Day'. You will notice the 1-minute time difference between the second and third verses, which account for the time he spent with God having a 'forward look' at his life if he didn't get up. You can read the script for this play HERE

Lenny gets an experience with God rather like a cross between 'It's a Wonderful Life' and 'A Christmas Carol'.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
Well, it's six o'clock this morning,
And on comes the radio...
The DJ, he tells me to get up, get dressed, get on the go!
But my pillow is deep, my blanket's warm, and the bed is soft,
And before he can say, 'It's time to start your day!'
I hit the button and shut him off!

Chorus:
I can think of a hundred million reasons not to get up today!
I can make up a hundred million reasons to stay in bed all day!
So please just turn off the light,
Come back to bed,
And unplug the phone,
Because my pillow is deep, I'm going back to sleep,
Why don't you leave me alone?

Verse 2:
Well, it's seven o'clock this morning,
And I smell some coffee brew,
I had to unplug the clock to stop it ringing
Every minute or two.
And now you yell in my ear,
It's clear that I am going to miss work today!
I can't get out of this bed,
I'll cover up my head
And pray to God you go away!

Chorus:

Verse 3:
Now it's 7:01 and son, I see just what the future holds:
I will miss my ride, my job is fried,
And my coffee's cold!
And if this keeps on,
My wife will be gone,
She'll move back in with Mom.
From what I see in my head,
I fly right out of that bed,
And get dressed and on my way!

Chorus:
I can think of a hundred million reasons to get up today!
I have coffee and eggs, and look outside, well, it's a wondrous day!
I have a job and a wife!
Yes it's a wonderful life
And folks depend on me!
I'm gonna turn a new leaf
And cause no more of this grief
And kick that lazy man out of me!

(Repeat Chorus)
